Derrick Blanton was reared in the foothills of North Carolina, 60 miles northwest of Charlotte and only 12 miles from Shelby, in a little town called Polkville.  After his parents bought a motel in Myrtle Beach, Derrick followed in their footsteps, moving here when he completed high school.  He then went into partnership with his mother, purchasing and operating a local motel.  In the motel business you learn to do everything from tiling to plumbing to masonry to carpentry.  With his skills, Derrick soon began a remodeling business with a friend, which eventually led to a partnership in the building business. The partnership was thriving, his partner however,  wanted to build 10 houses a year while Derrick envisioned building 50!  So they parted ways and now Derrick along with a very capable staff, builds over 50 houses a year.  This year celebrates Derrick’s 25th year in the construction industry here in the Grand Strand.

Not many builders want to build Custom Homes nowadays.  This is where Derrick shines.  His ability to deal with the owner on a personal, one on one level, to listen to their desires, and to implement a plan within their budget sets him apart from many other builders.  About 80% of his business comes through referrals from satisfied customers.  As people watch his homes being built in their neighborhoods they come to him because they like the manner in which his workers are respectful of the job site, It’s more than a job….it’s someone’s dream!  Tradesmen and vendors recommend him based on the quality they observe in his work, as well as the honesty he exhibits as he deals with them.  Others simply are friends of someone who has a Derrick Blanton built home, and want the same quality as they seek out a builder.

When you work with Derrick Blanton, you won’t find a guy in a three piece suit.  Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area lends itself to casual dress. You will find Derrick in sportsman’s attire, as he is an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing memorabilia are found in his game room and decorate his office.  He too is a devoted “fisher of men” as Derrick Blanton exhibits his Christian faith as the core of his business.  Doing the moral and ethical thing is very important to Derrick, but his motivation comes from more than conscience.  It comes from being responsible to God for your actions involving your fellow man.  One day, everyone will have to give account, and Derrick’s philosophy is that his life be honest and pleasing to the Lord.  It is with this sense of purpose that Derrick and his wife, Charlene enjoy their family life and work to raise two girls.

When you spend several months, and the customer spends several hundred thousand dollars, you get real close.  Taking care of that relationship is better than costly advertising…….it IS advertising, and it’s the best kind. Being licensed since 1991, and living in the area where you build, Derrick Blanton has made a reputation for “building dreams that last a lifetime.”
